O layout do prédio temporário de emergência do Montreal Heart Institute (ICM), composto por 42 unidades modulares, foi cuidadosamente planejado com vários departamentos do hospital para atender aos requisitos técnicos e operacionais para o funcionamento de uma sala de emergência movimentada. Foi adicionada uma largura extra aos corredores no primeiro nível para permitir o tráfego bidirecional de leitos hospitalares. Uma variação nos padrões dos ladrilhos do piso foi usada para marcar os locais dos leitos e as áreas designadas de espera e triagem. Em algumas áreas, a metade inferior das paredes tem um painel de proteção Acrovyn para minimizar o desgaste. Foram instalados dois postos de enfermagem com um sistema de chamada para cada um dos 30 leitos de emergência e banheiros.
O segundo andar tem consultórios médicos espaçosos. As grandes janelas permitem a entrada de luz natural e os acabamentos contemporâneos dão uma sensação menos institucional. A instalação foi cuidadosamente planejada e executada da fundação para cima para atender ao elevador do Nível 02 e à conexão do corredor com o hospital.
Como o prédio só será necessário por 4 a 5 anos e, por estar na propriedade do vizinho, era essencial que o projeto fosse modular. O projeto inclui interconexões de módulo a módulo de todos os serviços de construção para minimizar o trabalho realizado no local. A substituição das luminárias fluorescentes montadas na superfície do espaço de rastreamento por iluminação DEL proporciona uma iluminação mais econômica e mais eficiente em um espaço confinado.
O redirecionamento do ar de exaustão dos tetos suspensos para o espaço de esteira também proporciona à ICM uma solução mais econômica e eficiente para aquecer e ventilar o espaço de esteira mecânico. O uso de fundação de estacas de aço cravadas e parafusadas também proporciona uma solução mais econômica para a desmontagem no final do projeto em comparação com uma fundação de concreto padrão. O complexo "L-Shape" teve os sistemas estruturais, elétricos e mecânicos projetados para serem convertidos em (8) complexos menores de um andar após o projeto a baixo custo.
